Kathmandu, Oct 8 (ANI): Nepal Minister for Commerce and Supplies Rajendra Mahato has said the government will send formal letter to armed groups in the Terai, inviting them for peace talks soon after Dashain festival.

Speaking at the Reporters Club here on Tuesday, Mahato said the government would not resort to the policy of suppression but rather make every effort to meet the demands of the rebellion groups through peaceful dialogue.

Stating that indirect communication has been established with the armed outfits, Mahato assured of security to leaders who sit for negotiations.

Meanwhile, leaders have criticised the Maoists for taking up the issue of People's Republic on the eve of drafting a new Constitution.

UML leader Pradip Gyawali rejected the idea of establishing People's Republic immediately and stressed on the need to concentrate on writing a democratic constitution for Nepal.

Refuting allegations that Maoists are heading for communist rule, Maoist leader Devendra Poudel said the subject has been brought to floor only for debates and discussion and that his party has not decided to establish People's Republic in Nepal, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
