TUESDAY, JAN 22, (News Locale) - The girlfriend of French President Nicolas Sarkozy has relieved many Indian officials by categorically stating that she will not be accompanying the latter when he visits India later this week. President Sarkozy is the chief guest at the Republic Day parade this Saturday.
Indian officials were thrown into a tizzy as Ms Bruni is not officially married to Mr Sarkozy and there is no protocol on how to treat a visiting head of state's girlfriend.
However Ms Bruni has now solved their dilemma by saying she would not accompany the President as she has an album to record in February, "Also for health reasons, it's not good," she told French newspaper Liberation.
Ms Bruni also refuted rumors that she was married to the President, but added "it is in our plans".
Sarkozy and Bruni have dominated headlines ever since their romance hit the high peaks. However in India convention demands that a visiting head of state be accompanied by his wife. Indian officials were confused and were poring through protocol manuals to resolve the issue.
It was also speculated that Ms Bruni may have to be seated along with Mr Sarkozy at the official banquet hosted win the latter's honor with Indian President Pratibha Patil and her husband.
The issue though has now been bypassed much to the relief of the cornered officials.
