Kathmandu, Aug 28 (ANI): The Central Natural Disaster Rescue Committee (CNDRC) is meeting at Singha durbar today to formulate the plans for the reconstruction of breached Saptakoshi embankment, rehabilitation of the displaced and reconstruction of the damaged Highway.

Ministers and security personnel are participating in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Prachanda.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dev Gurung said that the meeting will dwell on the short and long term solutions for preventing disaster.

Meanwhile, United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced today that it will provide the food for 15 days to the victims of Saptakoshi floods.

"The emergency operation is in response to a Government of Nepal request after monsoon rains caused an embankment of the Saptakoshi River to collapse, flooding thousands of hectares of land and forcing an estimated 50,000 people to flee their homes," the WFP statement said.

Richard Regan, WFP's Nepal Representative, said that WFP will provide rice, pulse, salt and cooking oil to all the displaced people.

He also said that the WFP is ready to provide the food to the displaced people for one month who cannot return to their house.

It is estimated that the WFP will invest around three million U.S dollars for providing food to the displaced people, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
