London, June 17 (ANI): Ace golfer Tiger Woods hailed his play-off victory in the US Open title on the first hole of sudden death on Monday, as his finest ever 

"This was a truly great win against an unbelievably gutsy opponent and on a course that was so difficult. This was the best of my 14 Majors with the circumstances surrounding it and all the things that have gone on," Woods said.

But the No1 golfer confessed that he was pushed so hard with his injured left knee that he may now miss next month's Open at Royal Birkdale.

It was the 14th major championship for Woods, who parred the sudden death seventh at Torrey Pines to edge Rocco Mediate. The American world number one becomes the first golfer in history to win seven tournaments on one golf course.

And he described his 14th Major triumph as "my greatest, most special ever".

"I think this is probably the best ever," Woods said when asked to rate his 1-shot victory over an undeterred Rocco Mediate.

"All things considered, I don't how I ended up in this position, to be honest with you. It was a long week. A lot of questions going into the week. And here we are, 91 holes later," The Sun quoted Woods, as saying.

Woods underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his left knee two days after the Masters. According to Woods, doctors told him he could do additional damage to his knee by playing in the U.S. Open. (ANI)
