Annoyed over the Board for Control of Cricket in India’s decision not to revoke the seven-point guideline that has virtually gagged the members of the senior selection committee, the panel chairman Dilip Vengsarkar has written a letter to the board, but is yet to receive any response in this regard.

Vengsarkar said that while he has not received any response from the board, he also preferred to remain silent on whether he would submit his resignation from the post.

While Vengsarkar has straight-forwardly refused to comment on the issue, sources close to him revealed that the chief of the selection committee left Kolkata mid-way through the second Indo-Pak Test as he had begun to feel the ‘politics’.

Soon after, Vengsarkar wrote a long letter to the BCCI president Sharad Pawar stating that he would not attend Wednesday's selection committee meeting in Bangalore if the guideline was not withdrawn.

Although this has put the BCCI in a piquant situation as the selectors are scheduled to pick the side for the third Test against Pakistan as well as the squad for the ensuing Australia tour. However, the board has put up a stern stand making it clear that whether Vengsarkar accept their diktats or quit.

It may be mentioned here that the guidelines issued by the board to the selectors barred them from attending international matches played by India as well as not speak to the media. It had also prevented the selectors from writing in newspapers and magazines. The last clause had miffed Vengsarkar the most as he had made it clear that it was his sole source of sustenance.

Sources close to the board officials said that the board is still is in no mood to oblige Vengsarkar and is virtually prepared for his exit from the selection panel. As an emergency plan the BCCI has asked former Indian captain and a Pawar favorite Chandu Borde to be prepared to take up the mantle of the selection committee chairman in case Vengsarkar refuses to bow.
