SATURDAY, Sept 6, (News Locale) - With just a month to go for the all important India-Australia series, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has announced himself fit to play and is raring to get on to the field for some match practice before the first test on October 9.
Tendulkar had missed the ODI series against Sri Lanka last month after injuring his elbow in the third test match at Colombo. The master blaster was woefully short of form in the test series, managing to score just 95 runs from three test matches at an average of just 15.83 runs, his 31 runs in the second innings of the second test being his highest score.
However Tendulkar has now declared himself fit and ready for action and has confirmed that he will be taking part in the Irani Trophy at Vadodara later this month. Tendulkar will be a part of the Rest of India team that will play Ranji Trophy winners Delhi in a five day test match on September 24.
The Rest of India team will be selected on September 8, though BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah has revealed that the side to be picked will be the test side barring players who will be representing Delhi. Tendulkar is still 77 runs short of breaking Brian Lara's record of most test runs but will be confident that he will be able to replicate his good form against the Australians and reach the milestone in the first test to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Tendulkar will also have a point to prove as an increasingly successful young Indian team in the one-dayers is prompting critics to call for the ousting of seniors like himself, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly from the Test side.
