When Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar walks out to bat at Vadodara tomorrow in the fifth One-Day International against Australia, he will be conscious of the fact that he is the oldest player in One-day International cricket as far as the number of games is concerned. Playing 400 matches is no mean feat mind you, nor is scoring over 15,000 runs.
Tendulkar becomes only the second player after Sanath Jayasuriya to notch up 400 ODIs in his career. In Chandigarh, Tendulkar broke the record for the most number of fifties when he notched up his 84th fifty. He already holds the record for the most number of centuries in ODIs at 41.
Although his achievements need no glossing over, Tendulkar himself was quite calm ahead of his 400th game. "I am feeling good that it's my 400th one-dayer but for me it's just going to be another match; that's how I look at it. My approach will be the same as for any other normal one-day match," he shrugged.
Vadodara has been a happy hunting ground for Tendulkar and consequently for India. The Indians have never lost a match at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara and will be hoping to level off the Future Cup series tomorrow.
Sachin has scored three centuries here and averages an amazing 95.25 at the ground. His first century in Vadodara was against New Zealand in 1994 when he scored 115 in a seven-wicket win for his side. His highest score at the ground happens to be the 122 he rattled up against South Africa in March 2000. His other century came here in January when he notched up an unbeaten 100 against the West Indies.
Tendulkar's team mates are hoping to make his 400th game a grand one with a win. "For Sachin every day is a big day. He's achieved so many milestones that playing the 400th one-dayer is a small dot in his list of achievements," left-arm spinner Murali Kartik told a news conference.
Tendulkar also revealed that all games were the same for him as far as preparations were concerned. Still he will want to make every fans' dream of a century come true tomorrow.
Australia lead the seven match series 2-1 after the Bangalore game was washed out.
