A £40 million day. That was the case for Manchester United after the newly crowned league champions confirmed the triple signings of Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves in a space of 24 hours, which has stunned the footballing world.
United have agreed "in principle" the signings of promising winger Nani from Sporting Lisbon and highly rated attacking midfielder Anderson from Porto. The club has secured its future, with Nani seen as a long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs and Anderson to replace Paul Scholes.
With the completion of Hargreaves transfer from Bayern Munich, Sir Alex Ferguson has considerably boosted his side to ensure that the title stays at Old Trafford. However Ferguson might not get his wish to sign up a new striker, after chairman, David Gill revealed that the club has finished all its major transactions for this year.
"We will see what happens over the next two or three months but by and large that will be the major element of our business. If a player comes up that Sir Alex is convinced will make us better, I am sure we will find the funds but that is a major bit of business we have done this week", Gill said.
