India will be without the services of Sourav Ganguly in the second ODI against Australia after the former skipper strained his hamstring during the first match in Bangalore.
Ganguly limped off the field in the 27th over of the first match on Saturday and did not walk out to the field to open the innings. Confirming that Ganguly will miss out the second ODI, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah revealed that the 35-year old will undergo a vigorous rehabilitation process.
"An MRI scan was performed on Sourav's right hamstring and it has determined no injury to the region. Based on the findings, vigorous rehab approach will be commencing immediately. The team management feels that Sourav will progress quickly and hence it was decided to give him a one game rest", he said.
However the former Indian captain might not miss anything as the weather in Kochi continued to remain in a tearful mood. Incessant rains in the region have already forced both the teams to abandon net practice and the outfield in the stadium has turned soggy.
Curator P V Ramachandran has revealed that the condition of the ground is such that the game stands at a risk of abandonment if it rains even for a couple of hours on the match day. And with the met office predicting more showers for Tuesday, it remains to be seen whether the game gets underway.
The first match was washed out after Australia set India a target of 308 to win. Michael Clarke starred for the visitors with a superb 130.
