The ancient adage says that ‘all is well that ends well’ and so it was with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty-20 Championship promoted by Subhash Chandra of Zee TV and executed by the former Indian cricket superstar Kapil Dev.

In the first semi-finals of this much-talked about championship held at Panchkula in Haryana, Chennai Superstars lived up to their reputation and virtually routed Kolkata Tigers by 93 runs. And on Sunday, the Chennai Superstars beat the talented Chandigarh Lions to win the inaugural ICL tourney.

On the other hand, the Delhi Jets defeated Kolkata Tigers by five wickets to claim the third place and Hyderabad Heroes beat Mumbai Champs by 25 runs to finish fifth amidst some lively music and matching the stars on the ramp at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium at Panckula.

There was an exciting atmosphere all over as more than 10,000 people turned up to watch the final. The presence of Bollywood stars like Ajay Devgan, Ayesha Takia and Irfan Khan along with top models brought in glamour and star value to the event.

The battle between Chennai Superstars and Chandigarh Lions was settled by the professionals like Stuart Law, Ian Harvey and Ahmed who performed to precision.

Besides, the back-up from the ranks made the Chennai Superstars beat Chandigarh Lions handsomely and win the tournament in style. Ahmed, who was once condemned for his bowling actions, claimed four wickets, while an economic final over by Harvey helped the Superstars to win the title by 12 runs. In fact, Shabbir Ahmed secured a stunning hat trick to take the game beyond the reach of the Lions.

Ian Harvey (36), Hemang Badani (20) and skipper Stuart Law (33) gave their innings some respect and the Superstars put up a fighting total on the board. The Lions, chasing 156 for victory, could manage only 143 for eight as a late onslaught by Andrew Hall (30) and Sarabjit Singh (27) could not help to bail them out. The Superstars got richer by Rs 3.9 crore, while the Chandigarh Lions took home Rs 1.9 crore as prize money.
