David Beckham will be waiting nervously for the results of his knee scan after the former England captain limped off the field just 30 minutes into the SuperLiga final on Wednesday.
Beckham was substituted in the 31st minute of the match when he pulled out of a tackle and bent over in obvious pain. While a club spokesman revealed that Beckham could have suffered a strain to his knee, the player himself fears the worst.
"At this stage it's hard to tell, but it doesn't feel good. A ligament strain is four to six weeks but we'll have to wait for the results of the scan on Friday. If it is four to six, I won't be flying to England", Beckham revealed. The news would come as a blow to Steve McClaren as he struggles to find fit players for the crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers next week.
England plays Israel on September 8 and four days later welcomes Russia at the Wembley. A loss in any of the matches could make England's qualification to the Euro 2008 finals an uphill task and could herald an end to McClaren's short career as the England manager.
