MONDAY, September 1, (News Locale) - Aussie all-rounder Andrew Symonds is once again in the news - no, Harbhajan has had nothing to do with it this time. Symonds may in fact shockingly be mulling international retirement after he was sent home from Australia's one-day squad that is currently playing Bangladesh at home.

Roy or Symmo as he is affectionately called opted to go fishing before a compulsory team meeting called ahead of the first ODI againt Bangladesh. The team management including captain Michael Clarke and coach Tim Nielsen opted to send him home.

Now doubts are being expressed as to whether he is fit to tour India next month. Symonds was said to be in a mental turmoil regarding his future.

In fact if one were to cast an eye further back, he has never been the same after the infamous monkey-gate fiasco involving Harbhajan Singh. In the Sydney test last summer Symonds provoked Harbhajan Singh who responded with some choice words of his own. Ricky Ponting complained Singh had used monkey which is a racist word as far as Symonds is concerned.

Harbhajan was banned for three tests, but the BCCI threatened to call off the tour unless the ban was revoked. The three Test match ban was later revoked and Harbhajan was fined, but Symonds who started it all has been mentally affected by the whole drama. His batting has suffered as was obvious by his minimal impact in the lucrative Indian Premier League where he was signed by the Deccan Chargers for $1 million!

Even during the IPL Symonds had created a stir refusing to tour Pakistan. Security concerns eventually caused the tour to be called off, but Symmo made his views very clear.

Now his alleged disinterest in a team meeting indicates his state of mind is very fragile. His manager has suggested he will take a break and decide about his future. Whether that future involves what will be a tough India tour remains to be seen.
