MONDAY, Mar 10, (News Locale) - One of the most annoying things that could happen to travelers especially the business class variety is to have their laptops stolen. Often there is nothing one can do, but grin and bear it. However Unistal Systems has now unveiled new software that promises to track down stolen laptops.
The software is appropriately called "Locate Laptop" and claims to be able to sniff out stolen machines using a technology called WebSniff. The software also claims to be useful in preventing theft of laptops.
Locate Laptop works by tracking the activities of the users when he/she log onto the Internet. In case the laptop is stolen, the software continues to track the movements of the machine and sends the IP address and the whereabouts of the individual accessing the laptop to the original owner.
In order to track the thief, owners need to login to their Web-based Personal Tracking and Monitoring Page provided on www.locatelaptop.com. The software is a once-only installation and operates in stealth mode.
Alok Gupta, a director of Unistal Systems revealed that laptop thefts were on the rise and using this software may not prevent theft, but could be useful in recovering the machine.
Locate Laptop can be purchased at all Unistal's authorised channel partners at a cost of Rs 3,000 ($55) per licence. The company is promising to pay five times the cost of the software to Indian users if the software fails in tracing their stolen machines.
