WEDNESDAY, JAN 16, (News Locale) - The Macworld Conference and Expo in San Francisco is an eagerly awaited event for Apple fanatics and chief executive Steve Jobs did not disappoint fans. Jobs unveiled the thinnest laptop ever made and also announced that full-length Hollywood movies were now available for download from the iTunes store.
The new laptop called MacBook Air boasts of a a full-size keyboard in addition to a 13.3-inch LED backlit screen. Mr Jobs said the laptop was thin enough to fit into a mailing envelope.
"We've built the world's thinnest notebook - without sacrificing a full-size keyboard or a full-size 13-inch display," said Jobs. "When you first see MacBook Air, it's hard to believe it's a high-performance notebook with a full-size keyboard and display. But it is."
The MacBook Air runs on Intel’s 1.6 GHZ Core 2 Duo processor and has 2 GB of RAM with 80 GB hard disk space. The battery life for this ultacool device is 5 hours. The MacBook Air has also got in-built 802.11n wireless connectivity and iSight camera as well.
Apple said it will start shipping the new product in two weeks time. A standard configuration costs around $1,799.
Other announcements included the availability of full-length Hollywood movies on iTunes store. Jobs said that Apple had roped in all major studios for this feature including Touchstone, Miramax, MGM, Lionsgate, New Line Cinema, Twentieth Century Fox Film, Warner, Disney, Paramount, Universal, and Sony.
Rather than making any new product announcements as has been the norm in the last few years, Apple has chosen to release enhancements for its existing appliances.
