Israeli nanotechnology experts have inscribed the Hebrew Bible in a chip that is smaller than a pin-head. The Israeli scientists at the Haifa Institute of Technology have claimed that they have etched 300,000 words of the Hebrew Bible on a silicon surface measuring 0.01 square inch. If the claim of these researchers is true, then they have probably printed the smallest Bible ever.
According to the university’s scientific advisor for educational program Ohad Zohar, the scientists took up the project of inscribing the entire Hebrew Bible text in a minute chip only to demonstrate how it is possible to store enormous quantities of information in the smallest space.
The Bible contains enormous data – around 10 million bits. According to Zohar, the technology used to inscribe the world’s smallest Bible can later be used to store the vast information on bio-molecules and DNA studies.
Talking about the technology used to ‘write’ the Bible, Zohar said that this Technion's microscopic Bible was developed by exploding minuscule elements known as gallium ions at an article that then bounced back leaving behind an etching affect.
Elaborating, he said that the Bible was inscribed with the help of a scientific device called FIB – Focused Ion Beam. The Bible was etched on a silicon facade covered with a thin layer of gold of 20 nanometers thickness.
It may be noted here that the smallest known copy of the Bible known so far measured 1.1 x 1.3 x 0.4 inches and weighed 0.4 ounces. According to Guinness Word Record, the earlier Bible comprised 1,514 pages. That invaluable text is believed to have originated in Australia.
