SATURDAY, May 10, (News Locale) - Google continued its Indian centric expansion by announcing a localized version of its video sharing website, YouTube. This brings the total number of country specific versions of YouTube to 20 with website already having launched localized versions for 19 countries including Brazil, Spain and Russia.
It was a sensible approach for YouTube as the website receives a sizeable chunk of visitors from India. YouTube officials hopes that the localized version will be prove to be popular with both the visitors and the contributors, from big media companies searching for additional traffic source and small bands looking for exposure.
YouTube India will feature all the content and searches relevant to India. The company has already signed up content deals with a number of partners such as Eros Entertainment, IIFA, Rajshri Films, NDTV, Zoom TV etc.
However YouTube is yet to decide on a revenue sharing model with the website currently experimenting with a number of revenue sharing methods. YouTube's International manager, Sakina Arsiwala expressed confidence that the website will be able to find a model that will be satisfactory for both the company and its partners.
In order to prevent video theft and copyright infringement, YouTube has started a finger printing method that will allow the website to differentiate one video from one another and prevent illegal videos being uploaded on the site.
