THURSDAY, JAN 3, 2008, (News Locale) - Even as the consumers in the UK are yet to get hold on the first generation version of sub-laptops, Asus has divulged its plans to launch a modernized Eee PC at CES, the major technology show to be organized in Las Vegas on January 7.
The event will also mark Eee PC’s partnership with Intel and Sprint. Even Microsoft is believed to have customized its Windows system to enable it to be used on the Eee PCs that are enormously popular in the European and North American markets. While Cnet has already declared that the Eee PC as the most sought after Christmas gift in the US, the latest low-spec laptop from Asus will also support Wi-Max communication through its in-built systems and this capability is likely to will help enhance the offer in the European markets. The new Asus laptop will also feature a larger 9-inch screen.
According to sources, the new model will include an 8GB memory and will come as standard with Windows XP without a considerable cost difference with the current Linux-based version. Additionally, the new device will have WiMAX connectivity.
Meanwhile, the biggest challenge faced by Microsoft' is making its operating system run on limited resources such as the Eee PC since the lowest-spec Eee PC has a hard disk of just 4GB. However, Asus has now agreed to equip the second gen Eee laptop with an 8GB version along with a 1GB of RAM that many think should be sufficient for a feature-light version of Windows XP.
