FRIDAY, October 31, (News Locale) - Doctors always say losing a few pounds will help you enjoy sex in a better manner, but a new study out of the US indicates overweight and obese women actually have more sex than their normal weight counterparts.
Researchers at the School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, and Oregon State University analyzed data on more than 7,000 women who participated in the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth.
Dr Bliss Kaneshiro of the School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii analyzed several parameters of sexual behaviour in the women including relationship between body mass index and sexual behaviour, age at which the women had their first intercourse, number of partners, and frequency of intercourse.
Dr Kaneshiro said the study found no significant differences in the behavior patterns of normal weight women and overweight women as far as sexual intercourse was concerned. Earlier studies had indicated obese and overweight women had more unintended pregnancies than normal weight women.
This study also revealed overweight women were more likely to have had sexual relations with a man as compared to normal weight women. Dr Kaneshiro and co-author Marie Harvey say they are not sure why this is the case.
The details of the study appear in the September issue of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
The researchers also said all women, regardless of their body weight, need to be aware of the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases as well as of unintended pregnancies.
The above study smashes the myth that a woman has to be slender to have more sex and attract men. While obesity itself is not a healthy condition, this study demonstrates there is no reason why obese women cannot enjoy a healthy sex life.
