London, Sept.24 (ANI): One in five young Brits wants to quit the UK because the credit crunch is so depressing.

But it has sparked fears of a brain drain generation as Britain's brightest hopes flee the country in search of a better life.

A new study shows the dramatic lengths workers are taking to ride out the financial storm despite the efforts of Chancellor Alistair Darling.

About 40 percent of us are already hunting for a second job or begging our bosses for overtime.

Meanwhile, one in 10 Brits is also looking at ditching hired help like cleaners, cooks and nannies.

Economic experts claim the crash could pull many Brits back into the grim lifestyle of post-war Britain 60 years ago with a lifetime of cheap food and clothes, and almost no money for extras.

The only way to escape is to jet overseas to a life of sun and laidback luxury, in the likes of Australia, Spain or South Africa, say economists. The research from over 2,000 people on how they planned to ride out the credit crunch was carried out by online comparison shopping service Savebuckets.com.

The firm found savvy shoppers could save over 600 pounds on the five most common household items such as washing machines and plasma TVs by comparing prices. (ANI)
