The glamour girl of Indian tennis Sania Mirza is once again in trouble and this time for outraging the sentiments of a religious sect by shooting an ad film in their holy sanctum.
In fact, Sania’s move to shoot an advertisement film on the premises of holy Mecca Masjid has sparked of a raging controversy that has seen the angry mosque management lodge a complaint seeking action against the sportsperson. Incidentally the Hussainialam police in Andhra Pradesh are yet to register any case against Sania saying that they were probing into the incident.
Coming close on the heels of the ‘fatwa’ against the Bangladeshi author Tasleema Nasreen, who was hounded out of Kolkata recently owing to her alleged remarks in her book ‘Dwikandita’ against Islam, this time the clergy and the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) – an influential Muslim political party in the Muslim-majority old Hyderabad city — staged a protest against Sania.
With a view to ‘teach the tennis star a lesson’, the minority welfare department also lodged a complaint against Sania as well as the advertising agency that shot the ad film with her.
According to reports, the mosque welfare committee superintendent went to the police alleging that an ad agency team shot a film on the Masjid premises along with Sania Mirza without requisite permission.
He further charged that when mosque watchman Zahed wanted to know if the team had the requisite permission none of the accused even cared to answer the query and went ahead with the shoot.
Contrary to this the Charminar ACP B Reddenna confirmed that the ad agency had obtained permission for shooting in and around Charminar. He, however, said that the Masjid is a prominent place visited by numerous people round the year. They also take snaps of the place and the police are trying to find out if cases can me made out of the complaint against the tennis star and the ad agency.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad District Minority Welfare Officer Shaikh Kareemullah has said that Sania has hurt the religious sentiments of people visiting the mosque. It may be mentioned here that earlier Muslim ecclesiastics had issued two ‘fatwas ‘against Sania for wearing short skirts while playing tennis matches. This time, however, neither Sania nor her parents were not available for their comments on the incident.
