WEDNESDAY JAN 2, 2008, (News Locale) - US pop diva and Material Girl Madonna and her film director husband Guy Ritchie ushered in the New Year in the remote Dechu village of Rajasthan, but have cancelled her proposed trip to medieval Indian city of Jaisalmer with a view to keep away from the paparazzi.
Instead, the 49-year-old singer has chosen to spend her time at a 16th-century fort, which was once a princely state of medieval Rajasthan in the Pali district
According to reports, soon after reaching the historic city of Jodhpur by a chartered Kingfisher Airlines flight from Maldives on Monday, the world’s top paying female singer, her husband, son and five friends traveled to a heritage hotel in Dechu village.
Earlier, after their arrival in Jodhpur, the troupe checked in the Taj Hotel. Madonna’s personal security guards had arrived in Jodhpur three days in advance and rigid security was in place at the hotels and areas she was scheduled to visit during her stay in Rajasthan.
The singer has, however, cancelled her trip to Jaisalmer, the sprawling city of sandstone forts and vast areas of undulating sand dunes, fearing excesses by the paparazzi.
Madonna’s local tour manager said that the singer was so upset with the leakage of the news of her arrival in Rajasthan that all the local transport hired by them was cancelled and new vehicles were procured.
Instead, she decided to spend a day at the Rohit Garh Fort, now turned into a hotel. The troupe is also scheduled to visit Udaipur that boasts of a series of stunning lake palaces and visit the Ramakrishna Jain temple there. The pop celebrity, who now resides in London, is expected to stay in Rajasthan for five to six days.
It may be worthwhile to mention here that Madonna’s Rajasthan trip comes in the wake of a news report in the British media that the ‘Material Girl’ had been granted full custody of her David Banda, whom she adopted from Malwai.
Madonna was granted custody of the child after social workers certified that she was an ‘excellent mom’. Besides David, the singer has an 11-year-old daughter Lourdes by fitness trainer Carlos Leon and seven-year-old son Rocco with husband Ritchie. Now Madonna is reportedly looking forward to adopt a daughter from Cambodia.
Interestingly, Rajasthan is top on the tourism map of many Western celebrities and during the last few years several popular figures including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Anjelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have visited the place. India-born businessman Arun Nayyar and British actress Elizabeth Hurley also solemnized their marriage in this picturesque state last year.
