As if the Don Imus fiasco was not embarrassing enough, CBS Radio has been compelled to axe two more shock jocks after a racist slur filled pranks call to a Chinese restaurant.
The two shock jocks in question are Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, who were associated with “The Dog House with JV and Elvis.”
These fresh dismissals come just one month after radio host Don Imus was fired following his racist remarks against the Rutgers University women's basketball team. CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo confirmed yesterday that Vandergrift and Lay would no longer be broadcast on their radio.
Vandergrift and Lay were suspended nearly three weeks ago for airing a prank call to a Chinese restaurant where the caller orders “shrimp flied lice.” The call broadcast on April 5 also made lewd references to a woman's body [arts, while the caller professed to be a kung fu student.
Asian-American groups did not notice the call when it was first aired, but n the second airing, it ignited a furor also because the Don Imus episode had hit front pages at that time. The shock jocks were initially suspended without pay, but after an outcry from Asian-American groups they were axed yesterday.
The Organization of Chinese Americans called it a win for all communities that had to face racism every day.
Meanwhile it is not clear if the contracts of Vandergrift and Lay also stand canceled. CBS did not clarify if the pair was still on their books.
Don Imus on the other hand is reportedly contemplating suing CBS for $120 million citing breach of contract.
