Taking a clue from Shah Rukh Khan, who made his bid to popularize hockey though his celluloid flick ‘Chak De India’, actor John Abraham is endeavoring to make football popular through his latest Hindi movie ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’.

Besides, promoting the game through the movie, John has gone a step further by attending the kick-off of the Indian Football League at Goa recently along with Union minister and All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi.

Currently, John is basking in the glory of the film, which is not only doing well in the theaters, but also received the acclaim of prominent sportsperson, including Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia.

While Dasmunshi has expressed his happiness over having John at the AIFF event, on his part the actor has arranged for special screening of the movie for the Mohun Bagan team as well as cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, both of whom have appreciated his efforts to popularize the game.

In the film ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ John is cast in the role of a footballer of south Asian origin. The story of the film revolves around the going-on in a British soccer team called the Southall United Football Club, which passes through one of the worst crisis in the history of its existence since the team is not only plunged in debts, but also has no takers. The crisis deepens as the team has no coach, no sponsors, no spectators and even no owner.

In such a scenario Shaan played by Arshad Warsi takes up the challenge to save the club from annihilation, while Tony Singh by Boman Irani joins the team as the coach.

Together they work to re-build the shattered team comprising Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi players. Next, Sunny Bhasin played by John Abraham who depicts an Indian origin footballer who is denied a berth in the England team for racist reasons, joins them to add versatility to the team.

Putting their best efforts, the trio takes the club to a prominent position and revives its lost glory. Bipasha Basu is John’s love interest in the film directed by Vivek Agnihotri.
