London, Aug 28 (ANI): Pop paedophile Gary Glitter, 64, was forced to flee his seaside hideaway after his whereabouts were made public.

The English pop and rock singer, who had been staying at an old friend's house in the tiny village of Hill Head in Hampshire after he was deported back to England, was reportedly discovered by the paparazzi hiding there.

When his hideaway was exposed, he spent August 26 night at Fareham Police Station out of fears for his safety, according to reports.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, had been jailed for three years in Vietnam in March 2006 for committing obscene acts with two girls aged 10 and 11. With the attention he has been drawing, Glitter went into hiding when he got to England, but he was reportedly seen visiting a local supermarket and at a Porche dealership in nearby Warsash looking at a 25,000 pounds car under the cover of darkness.

The pop pervert had shaved off his grey beard, and was wearing a straw hat and ginger wig as disguise for his trip to the motor shop.

After Glitter's whereabouts came to light, his neighbours in the two-storey brick cottage in Old Street said that they were shocked that he had been in their midst.

"It is disgusting. I cannot believe he was living right under our noses and we did not know anything about it. I hope he leaves and never comes back," the Daily Telegraph quoted a nurse at Solent Cliffs Care Home, near the house, as saying.

Glitter's close friend, who had given him sanctuary, refused to comment on whether the singer had been staying at his house or not.

Peter Nash Porche showroom manager Mark Nash admitted to the singer visiting them.

"Yes he has been here and it must have been over the last couple of days," he said.

"We have not seen him or dealt with him but he is obviously around the area," he added.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson refused to give any details about Glitter.

"It is our policy not to discuss any details of named individuals who are registered sex offenders," the spokesperson said. (ANI)
