American Idol bid goodbye to Chris Sligh after he disappointed with his Tuesday rendition of "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic." Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey were the other two in the bottom three after Tuesday's Idol show.
Ironically Sanjaya Malakar, who continues to arouse extreme feelings among Idol fans lives to fight another day. Curly-haired crooner Chris Sligh was not so lucky and judge Simon Cowell had indicated as much even before the results were in.
"I think it's bye-bye, curly," predicted Simon Cowell, adding the performance was a mess. Sligh was slowly building up momentum before his disastrous Police song. He had suggested he was "bringing chubby back," with his cheery personality.
Sanjaya Malakar on the other hand is waiting with bated breath for the bye-bye day, which surely is not too far off. His vocal abilities were less than impressive on Tuesday as he sang No Doubt’s “Bathwater.” But the talking point was his bizarre Mohawk-like hairstyle, which prompted Cowell to quip, “I presume there wasn’t a mirror in your dressing room."
Cowell has vowed to quit if Sanjaya survives next week. But his fans, being called Fanjayas and the votefortheworst.com crew appear determined to keep him on track for the finale.
“Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe says he admires Malakar's guts, “I feel as though last week I was myself Sanjayaed purely and simply because he’s got guts, this kid, and you have to applaud that,” said Lythgoe. “And if half the people with more talent than him had his guts, we’d get better talent all around.”
Meanwhile poor MySpace user "J" who is on a hunger strike till Sanjaya is eliminated will have to wait for at least another week.
"I don't even know what to say," J wrote after Tuesday's Idol show. "If I hadn't gone on a hunger strike, and if after 11 days the urge to eat wasn't completely gone as it is now, it would be after watching Sanjaya's performance tonight." J says she has lost 10 pounds in the last fortnight.
After the show Chris Sligh said he was expecting the kick, but was slightly put off by Cowell. Speaking to Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM he said, "Sometimes I feel like Simon just has to get his little jabs in. I was just thinking, 'What a jerk.' At least let me go out with some dignity."
