Even as controversies have been chasing Madhuri Dixit’s comeback film ‘Aaja Nachle’, while reviewing the movie, The New York Times has surprisingly approved the actress’ significant sex appeal and dancing skills despite a five-year self-exile from Bollywood.
The review says that while Madhuri still retains her magic and mystique, it is now up to the filmmakers to find stories that would utilize her talents effectively.
However, the reviewer is harsh with ‘Aaja Nachle’ director Anil Mehta and says that he seems to be totally unable to understand how to utilize Madhuri’s enormous talents effectively.
According to the reviewer, now Hindi film stalwarts would need to work out new stories and success strategies to deliver films with middle-aged women in the lead for Madhuri at 40 is an ideal actress to bring such roles to life.
Meanwhile, "Aaja Nachle" firector Anil Mehta has come down heavily on the critics for damaging the film’s prospects at the box office. He has held negative reviews of the film as the primary reason for its lukewarm reception by the audience. Incidentally, the film opened with much hype last week, but failed to fulfill the aspirations of either the producers or the audience.
Although the film has had an average first weekend, Mehta said he was still hopeful that ticket sales would pick up during the week. He said that he is expecting that people will go to the theatres and see the film for themselves and not believe in the critics.
"I believe that no matter what the critics write, people will surely go and watch Madhuri's comeback film at least once," he signed off.
