Films which depict smoking should have an R-rating and the theatres in which such movies are shown should air anti-smoking hoardings, according to the American Medical Association. The AMA said that a recent survey has shown increasing support to changing the film industry policy and concern over the display of smoking in children's films. Dr. Cheryl Healton of the American Legacy Foundation, an anti-smoking advocacy group called on the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to give those films that depict smoking an R-rating.

Eight months after the announcement that hit videogame Metal Gear Solid will be made into a Hollywood movie, it has been revealed that Sony Pictures Entertainment will be working on the movie. According to GameSpot, Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau spilled the beans, saying that his studio will be making the movie. "We're working with the Metal Gear guys. It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling. But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'", Landau added. The game is based on retired Special Forces operative known as Solid Snake, who was called out of retirement to save a nuclear facility in Alaska, which terrorists had threatened to blow up. The game has been designed by Konami Digital Entertainment and has sales of over 20 million units.

Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate and a Marilyn Monroe-wannabe died in mysterious circumstances in Florida last night. The 39-year-old Smith was found Thursday in an "unconscious and unresponsive" state in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Hollywood. It was not immediately clear what she was doing in Florida although the hotel staff did say that she had stayed there on numerous occasions previously. Even the cause of her sudden death remains a mystery. Dr. Joshua Perper, the chief Broward County medical examiner is scheduled to perform an autopsy on Friday. He said that if the death was from natural causes, the results would be released pretty soon, but it could take weeks for anything definitive to emerge. Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger said that a distress call was made by a private nurse after Smith was found in her room. Her bodyguard tried to administer CPR as did the paramedics. However they were unable to revive her.

A U.S. Snickers candy bar commercial that was first shown during the recent Super Bowl XLI broadcast was pulled off after the company the made the ads received complains that the ad was "anti-gay". In the ad, two mechanics were shown repairing a car under the hood. One of them opens a pack of Snickers bar and starts munching away. The second mechanic starts to eat from the other end and at the end of the bar, both the men were shown "accidentally" kissing each other. Both the men become horrified and in an attempt to do something "manly", start to tear their chest hair. Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese came down hard on the ad saying that such type of ads are hard on the gay community. "This type of jeering from professional sports figures at the sight of two men kissing fuels the kind of anti-gay bullying that haunts countless gay and lesbian school children on playgrounds all across the country", he added. The ad predictably has not gone down well with gay groups who have bombarded Masterfoods USA, the company which makes Snicker bars, with demands to stop the ad. Confirming that they will be stopping the ads, Masterfoods spokeswoman Alice Nathanson said, "We know that humor is highly subjective and understand that some people may have found the ad offensive. Clearly that was not our intent. Consequently, we do not plan to continue to air the ad on television or on our Snickers Web site."
