Eight months after the announcement that hit videogame Metal Gear Solid will be made into a Hollywood movie, it has been revealed that Sony Pictures Entertainment will be working on the movie. According to GameSpot, Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau spilled the beans, saying that his studio will be making the movie. "We're working with the Metal Gear guys. It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling. But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'", Landau added. The game is based on retired Special Forces operative known as Solid Snake, who was called out of retirement to save a nuclear facility in Alaska, which terrorists had threatened to blow up. The game has been designed by Konami Digital Entertainment and has sales of over 20 million units.
The game has proved to be something of a franchise with 3 million strategy guides, 1.5 million action figures and 200,000 comic books sold since its debut in 1998. Meanwhile Landau said that his studio is looking at other games, including EverQuest, to turn into movies.
