Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, who recently won the reality show Celebrity Big Brother in the UK, has said that it was time for people to stand up against racism. Shetty was at the center of racism and bullying row in the show when her co-contestants hurled alleged racist taunts against her. The frenzy generated by these comments caused Jade Goody to be evicted from the house and her career is definitely on the knife. However Shilpa said that she had put the whole incident behind her. "It's over and done with for me. I truly feel they have had to face so much after coming out that they've learnt their lesson. I think I took my stand. I stood my ground in my own way. I did it my way," she told GMTV in an interview. Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara called her a "dog" and "the Indian." However hurt, as she was by the comments, Shilpa's dwindling Bollywood stock has been revived by the furor.
In Britain alone, she has raked in the rewards, financial or otherwise. The Daily Mirror secured a £150,000 deal with her for an exclusive interview. She has also been linked with lucrative deals with Emami and Tesco. Meanwhile police questioned model Danielle Lloyd over the alleged racist comments made on the show. "She was interviewed as a witness, not under caution," said a spokesman for Schillings, who represent the model.
